Gatton Sprints ~ 20 March, 2010 ....

After putting-on a display back in ‘08, we were asked back in ‘09, but for reasons I can’t recall, we were unable to attend, so when we were asked to do it this year we didn’t hesitate. Darryn, Ron and his brother Bill, Anna and Phil met us at the Plainlands Pub bright and early.

Exchanging pleasantries, we were soon on the road to Gatton. Arriving in plenty of time to get our special spot, we were soon asked to move as the Bandag Bullet (world’s fastest Drag Truck) needed to park there for easy access to the track.

The day was windy, overcast then sunny, but all-in-all not bad. After the guys decided to put the shade up (and an injury occurring- I will survive), it was too windy to leave it up so down it came. The guys know what to do next time!!!

Lots of cars to watch, a few near misses, and a big crash just before we left. The guy was lucky to walk away with a possible broken ankle or leg, and who knew that Minis could go fast enough to spin out, catching up with friends and talking to so-called 'experts on Toranas', the day soon passed.

Lots of interest in the cars as we had a great parking spot. Photos were taken (as always), then it was time to think about going home before we would be unable to get out. So just before the Bandag Bullet went back onto the track for another big burnout, we were packed and ready to go. The organiser wanted us to go via the track so that spectators could get a gander at these classic cars of ours, so Darryn led the way onto the bitumen, followed by Ron and his sidekick, then Phil and Anna, with Pete and I bringing-up the rear.

Next thing we heard the sound of tyres screaming, followed a few seconds later by another set of howling tyres. (These members shall remain nameless, though one is quite proud of himself!). Anyway, the only red faces were from too much sun!

Thanks guys and Anna for a great time once again.

Gail.
