Delaneys Creek Run- via Eaton’s Hill, Dayboro, Woodford.
Sunday 27th March 2011
The day was perfect for a run through the mountains and surrounding countryside. The idea started with a couple of guys, Lance and Tony, getting together and organizing this trip, starting at Nudgee Service Centre, then heading to Eaton’s Hill, going through the aforementioned mountains and countryside of Clear Mountain, Samford, Dayboro, Mount Mee, Woodford and then onto Lance and Karen’s humble abode at Delaneys Creek, where we would partake of a great BBQ that the guys had organized.
Arriving at Nudgee, we were overwhelmed by the number of Toranas that had turned-up for the run (approx 50). After the now customary meet-and-greet, Lance welcomed us all before giving us a rundown on what we would be doing on the trip. Then it was time to head for the highway and Eaton’s Hill, where Andrew, Leesa and boys joined the convoy, before we headed-up Clear Mountain Road and some of the most spectacular, million dollar views (as Pete put it) where million dollar homes were perched to take advantage of, and enjoy, these amazing 360 degree views!
After driving through all of this, we headed-down the mountain and onto the lovely village of Dayboro. This is where we stopped for a break and where we met-up with Gary, Karen, Reedy and Des. After the usual taking photos of the cars and catching-up, we were soon on our way again, heading for Mount Mee and the sleepy hamlet of Woodford, where Lance wanted to do a drive-by of a 'Leopard Tank' that was newly acquired by the local RSL branch from the army.
Before we got to Woodford, some members got to have a 'chat' with some members of the local constabulary, who just happened to be hanging around outside of town. Andrew also had a problem, but it was with his car, something to do with points or something. Anyway, they too rejoined us for the trip to Lance and Karen’s. Soon there was a long line-up of Toranas heading up Lance’s street (some neighbours came out to see what all the noise was about, while others had been pre-warned!), before turning into the driveway and parking wherever they could find a spot in the yard.
Setting-up our chairs under the gazebo out of the sun, some of us girls were soon catching-up on the latest goss and having a great time as I’m sure everyone else was. Lance and the guys from the QTCC soon had the barbie fired-up and the food cooking. It wasn’t long before everyone was lining up for a great feed.
After much socializing and many photos taken of the spectacular display of cars, it was time to think about heading home. After saying our farewells, we hit the road, following Tom & Kelli, Wayne & Sandra and Bruce (from the QTCC). We were going home via Kilcoy and Somerset Dam. After stopping at Kilcoy for a few minutes it was time to say farewell to Wayne and Sandra as they headed for Kingaroy, and a final goodbye to Tom, Kelli & Bruce as we all headed for Ipswich.
A big 'THANK YOU' to Lance & Karen for the use of their fine establishment, and to Tony Standfield for co-contributing with Lance in organizing this great event. Also thanks to the members of the QTCC, our members, members of the Caboolture Regional Car Club and the A9X Club who made the effort to come on this run and for making it a most memorable one. Also “Thank you” Lance for the great fotos (especially 'THAT ONE' of Sandy and me!!!!!). |
