All Holden Day 2010
Sunday 26th September- Rocklea Showgrounds
Ron and Pete decided to take their cars (Ron in his XU-1 and us in the VL) to Rocklea for the All Holden Day, and unbeknownst to us, other club members (Clyde and Sue and John Acco) decided to do the same. The day turned out to be quite WARM, but we managed to keep our COOL! Other members turned up for a look see minus their cars.
Lots of cars this year, especially in the 1970-1980 category, which meant Ron, John and Clyde had a lot of competition, so they were pleasantly surprised when they were each awarded a trophy. Our class, 1980-1990 was much smaller and Pete was also awarded a trophy. Clyde and Sue also received a trophy for their other Holden, All in all, not a bad day’s work!
Sunday 3rd October- Toowoomba.
After their success the weekend before, Ron, Pete and John thought Toowoomba All Holden Day would be good to take their cars to. Rod Campbell was going to bring both his XU-1 and his VK, but, because of the yukky weather, decided to just bring the VK.
Steve Rule, Acco, Ron and Pete and I met up at the Red Elephant at Hattonvale even though the weather was not looking good and we knew that in Toowoomba it wouldn’t be any better. But we thought we may as well keep going and prayed that the day would improve.
Arriving in Toowoomba and at the venue, the weather wasn’t great, but that didn’t deter the diehards from bringing out their pride and joy. Even though there weren’t as many cars as last year, it was still a good turnout! We parked our cars near other Toranas [ we were allowed to park the VL next to our small group] and John Wilcock parked at the other end of our group.
The weather started to improve as the day progressed, and we were all having a good time. There were some great looking cars, everything from FJ’s to VL’s. We all came home with goodies that the guys got just for entering and some of us even won some raffle prizes!!!. But some of us came home with the best prizes of all - TROPHIES !!! . Ron, John and Pete had done it again, and Rod joined them. (the trophy collections are growing!)
Two great weekends, in more ways than one. Congrats to those who got trophies, commiserations to those who didn’t, and thanks to everyone who joined us for the day, it was great. |
